As the collective \u201cfaces\u201d of MTC, special attention is paid each year to update, re-familiarize and instruct our Tour Directors.  This past year, motivational speaker and educational consultant Fran Kick returned to MTC to lead us in some team-building. You can check out Fran Kick <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickitin.com\/programs\/employee-programs\/\">employee presentations here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickitin.com\/games\/\">team-building games here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Indianapolis-based communications company, <a href=\"http:\/\/borshoff.biz\">Borshoff<\/a>, sent leaders Jennifer Dzwonar and Linda Jackson to introduce and teach employees and Tour Directors about  MTC\u2019s proactive and reactive crisis communications plan. After all, you&#8217;ve loaded the coolers and suitcases and pets and kids in the car and taken the family on plenty of road trips, most of which weren&#8217;t absolute disasters. However, handling the minute-to-minute coordination of travel arrangements for a group of 10 or more offers special challenges requires experience and demands full-time attention.<\/p>\n<p>Music Travel Consultants\u2019 Tour Directors have been carefully selected for their people and management skills. Much like a music director, a professional Tour Director works hard to make sure the group receives clear communication and stays on time, so it may enjoy all of the things promised by the trip. Although the Tour Director doesn\u2019t know who that river is named for or the kind of tree in that park, her or his primary job is to make sure the group receives everything to which it is entitled.  Fulfillment of this task involves communication and re-communication with coach drivers, hotels, restaurants, attractions, tour guides, performance venues, other transportation providers, rental agencies and much more. In addition to this behind-the-scenes work, the Tour Director circulates within the group, gauges its pulse, gives clear instructions, answers questions and provides needed assistance. All of which frees music directors and group leaders to enjoy the trip and perform their own tasks. Should problems arise, your MTC Tour Director is empowered and has the tools to respond to them. In high school, he studied at the North Carolina School for the Performing Arts. A Ball State University Young Artists Scholarship recipient, Mark earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education in 1989. He was the assistant band director and assistant choir director at LaPorte High School (IN) and served as music department chair at Frankton High School (IN). The 1998 Concerto Competition winner at the University of Louisville, Mark taught brass methods and marching band techniques classes while working on his master's degree in conducting at University of Louisville. Mark's marching and concert bands at La Porte and Frankton high schools received consistent superior ratings. His winter guards made the Indiana High School Color Guard Association finals seven times, were IHSCGA State Champions in 1996, and were Winter Guard International World Championship finalists four times. Mark has served on the boards of directors for both Winter Guard International and the Indiana High School Color Guard Association. In 1997, Mark began a career as a student travel planner at Music Travel Consultants. Since then, he has been an adjudicator and clinician throughout the Midwest, and he's taught private lessons and chamber ensembles at Avon (IN) High School. Currently, Mark serves on the marching band staff of Avon High School's Marching Black and Gold. So far during his tenure, the band has been crowned ISSMA State Marching Band Champions 9 times. It has been a BOA Grand National finalist 9 times, and the BOA Grand National Champions in 2008, 2009 and In high school, he studied at the North Carolina School for the Performing Arts. A Ball State University Young Artists Scholarship recipient, Mark earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education in 1989. He was the assistant band director and assistant choir director at LaPorte High School (IN) and served as music department chair at Frankton High School (IN). The 1998 Concerto Competition winner at the University of Louisville, Mark taught brass methods and marching band techniques classes while working on his master's degree in conducting at University of Louisville. Mark's marching and concert bands at La Porte and Frankton high schools received consistent superior ratings. His winter guards made the Indiana High School Color Guard Association finals seven times, were IHSCGA State Champions in 1996, and were Winter Guard International World Championship finalists four times. Mark has served on the boards of directors for both Winter Guard International and the Indiana High School Color Guard Association. In 1997, Mark began a career as a student travel planner at Music Travel Consultants. Since then, he has been an adjudicator and clinician throughout the Midwest, and he's taught private lessons and chamber ensembles at Avon (IN) High School. Currently, Mark serves on the marching band staff of Avon High School's Marching Black and Gold. So far during his tenure, the band has been crowned ISSMA State Marching Band Champions 9 times.
