This destination features California’s Clovis High School Band, going to the WGI Percussion World Championships. WGI Sport of the Arts is the world’s premier organization producing indoor color guard, percussion, and wind ensemble competitions. As a non-profit youth organization, WGI serves as the leading governing body of the indoor winter guard, percussion and winds activities. It is called the Sport of the Arts because it brings music to life through performance in a competitive format. Now entering its 39th year in 2016, the sport continues to evolve and grow. There were more than 36,000 participants at the regional level, and more than 12,000 participants at the Sport of the Arts World Championships this past April. Within the Winter Guard and Indoor Percussion community, World Championships are the pinnacle of achievement, a true showcase of the finest performers in the activity. The goal of every group is to compete and succeed in Dayton. The Clovis HS Band competes in the highest of the three categories, World Class. To qualify for World Class, groups must possess an advanced skill set and prove they can perform at a very high level. The competition is fierce. <\/p>\n

After a full day of rehearsal Wednesday, the group performed in Preliminary competition on Thursday morning at UD Arena. With a fine run of their show, the Clovis High School Band qualified for the PSW Semi Finals with a score of 80.425. The full scores for the PSW Semi Finals can be seen here<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In spite of a pre-dawn warmup time in the chilly UD Arena lot Friday morning, the group turned in another fine performance in semi-finals. Unfortunately, their score did not qualify them for Finals, but they enjoyed watching all the finals performances on Saturday. <\/p>\n

In addition to rehearsal and performance, the Clovis group enjoyed the camaraderie of group meals, the opportunity to watch performances by outstanding percussion groups from around the world, and a bit of fun at the Scene75 entertainment complex \u2014 go carts, video games, and even bull riding!<\/p>\n
