For the \u201cSavannah Irish,\u201d the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is the culmination of weeks of festivities and Irish heritage functions. Beginning with the Irish Festival in mid-February every year, the City begins to get a taste of the rich history of Savannah’s Irish population. With the Investiture of the Grand Marshal on the very first Sunday of\u00a0 March, the Parade Committee goes into full preparation mode. In the days that follow, The Greening of the Fountain in historic Forsyth Park symbolizes how the entire City \u201cturns green\u201d in support of the upcoming Parade. Later on, the Celtic Cross Mass, parade and ceremony are celebrated on the Sunday before the parade. Every year, the people of Savannah truly feel how Saint Patrick’s day was first celebrated over 200 years ago. And, finally, the Saint Patrick\u2019s Day Parade is a celebration of Savannah’s faith and heritage every March 17th. Savannah celebrates with 12 different Irish heritage organizations, numerous Irish families, the men and women serving in uniform, and many sponsors and supporters.<\/p>\n
