Her family always vacationed in the summers, but when her grandparents took 10 year old Michelle to Washington, D.C., the rest was history! Michelle loves learning about new places and exploring them with her groups.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<blockquote class=\"blockquote-primary\"><p>&#8220;Michelle came to MTC with real-world group travel experience, having planned performance trips for the Purvis H.S. MTC&#8217;s Jeff Buchanan came down to our school in 2017 to discuss an upcoming trip in March 2018. He mentioned the need for tour directors, and I became extremely curious. That led to me to speak with MTC&#8217;s Rick Campbell, and now, here I am!<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>How many trips have you tour directed?<\/strong><br \/>\nMichelle Hartfield: <em>Eight!<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>What is the hardest part of being a successful MTC Tour Director?<\/strong><br \/>\nMichelle Hartfield: <em>I would say it&#8217;s trying to make sure everyone is getting the most out of the trip and is happy. My largest solo group was 185 [people].<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Is there something you wish travelers knew before a trip departs?<\/strong><br \/>\nMichelle Hartfield: <em>A 60 second NYC bus load and unload. I had the best time with my bus in NYC telling them they had to unload and load in 60 seconds, so the bus could move along (and not get ticketed!) I made a game out of it by standing by the door with my timer going! All of the logistics are handled by the [MTC] staff and Tour Director.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Any advice or things you want to share with groups considering performance travel?<\/strong><br \/>\nMichelle Hartfield: <em>Decide where you wish to visit and give MTC a call. I&#8217;ve had many directors and parents tell me how great it is that they don&#8217;t have to do anything except enjoy the trip. He served on the OMEA State Board as District II President and Technology Rep, and he's a past-president of the BGSU Alumni Band Board of Directors. Jeff's bands received numerous superior ratings at OMEA adjudicated events, and he is a former director of the Heidelberg College Brass Band and former interim director for Fostoria Community Band. His little-known claim to fame was a first-place trophy his Stryker HS (Ohio) All-Brass Band earned in a small town Indiana parade in the early 1980\u2019s, outplacing the current BOA champion band. Jeff has been a featured Euphonium soloist with the North Coast Concert Band, Heidelberg Brass Band and Fostoria Community Band. He was pleased to conduct the BGSU Alma Mater with the Alumni Band for the Centennial pregame show in 2010. He is an active participant in community theatre throughout northwest Ohio with his wife, Laura, most recently performing in \u201cThe Full Monty\u201d at Toledo Valentine Theatre. Having been a Drum Corps enthusiast for many years, Jeff found his way to Illinois State University in the mid-1990's for the BOA Summer Symposium, and the seeds were planted for a post-teaching career in the music industry. Jeff served as a regional sales rep with Music Technology firms Lentine's Education Technology and SoundTree before bringing his diverse background to MTC in 2009. He has participated in countless trips as a music educator and Travel Consultant. Sons Adam and Tyler march with Jeff each Fall as members of the BGSU Alumni Marching
