Proposed Itinerary

Your first experience of “Aloha” begins on arrival! You’ll be met after exiting security with the Traditional Flower Lei greeting. You’ll then be escorted to baggage claim, where porters will retrieve your luggage from the carousel and your host will take you to your waiting vehicle for transfer to your hotel.

You’ll be greeted at your hotel by your Local Tour Director. Bellmen will deliver your luggage to your room, and you’ll be taken to the Purdue Hospitality Desk for check-in.

The island of Oahu is called the Gathering Place and, while other travelers arrive to join in the tour, this evening is on your own to eat dinner and relax. Try to stay up past 10:00 pm local time to more quickly adjust to Hawaiian Time!

Overnight Waikiki Beach
Your hotel is the Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger.

Purpose
The Purpose of this trip is to allow Purdue Band and Orchestra Alumni to Celebrate Purdue University's 150th Anniversary!

Rise and shine, it’s Hawaiian time! Enjoy breakfast and Hawaiian music with your local tour director, and receive an informative briefing covering local area shopping, safety and optional tours. Following rehearsal, here’s your opportunity to Hang Loose, Hawaiian Style. Optional Activities, like a Circle Island Tour, Mini Circle Island Tour or Traveling to a Neighbor Island will be available for purchase. Or, you can sit back, relax and enjoy your day in Paradise. Lunch, dinner and the evening are on your own to explore Waikiki.

After breakfast on your own, depart by motorcoach for Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial. Today you will learn one of our country’s most valuable history lessons: how men and women responded and gave their lives on December 7, 1941, “The Day of Infamy.” Today’s experience will make you proud to be an American and thankful for the freedoms we enjoy.

After visiting the Arizona Memorial, it’s time for a deli-style lunch under the shade of the Monkey Pod trees. Listen to a WWII historian’s educational presentation as you eat. After lunch, you have the chance to represent Purdue Bands & Orchestras with a Patriotic Performance on the grounds of the Visitors Center, where thousands come to pay their respects daily.

Following the concert, gather for a dramatic and uplifting Flag Folding Ceremony. Each fold of the American Flag has significance, and today you’ll see firsthand how each fold honors the flag and our military service men and women who sacrificed for our freedoms.

On the ride to the hotel, enjoy a narrated Honolulu City Tour, driving to The National Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl), Washington Place (Governor’s Mansion), The State Capitol Building, Iolani Palace and the King Kamehameha Statue. Dinner on your own tonight at your leisure.

Breakfast and lunch on your own today in Paradise! Relax and hang loose, or purchase an optional activity like the Barefoot Catamaran Sail or the Rainforest Waterfall Hike!

This evening, it’s the Waikiki Aquarium Diamond Head Luau! Learn how to dance the Hula, dine on traditional Hawaiian foods, experience music, entertainment and that priceless, gracious island hospitality, all at this authentic Hawaiian Luau! Plus, take a peek at the denizens of the deep (Pacific Ocean) at the Waikiki Aquarium, open for 30 minutes after the luau for your exclusive access!

Breakfast on your own this morning, before boarding your motorcoach to drive to Hawaii’s State Capitol. Purdue Bands & Orchestras perform this morning in the Capitol Rotunda, bringing the Boiler Spirit to Hawaii!

Following the performance, you’ll tour Iolani Palace, the only Royal Palace on American soil, and the official residence of Hawaii’s Monarchy. Now restored to its original opulence, a docent will regale you with the monarchy’s history and the kings and queens of the Hawaiian paradise. Lunch is included before boarding your coach to tour the eastern shores of Oahu. You’ll see all the features that cause folks to fall in love with Hawaii: lush tropical rainforests, impossibly rocky cliffs, incredible views of the Pacific Ocean, and more!

Evening at leisure today, with dinner on your own.

Have breakfast on your own this morning. The day is yours to experience - - hanging loose, taking that optional Circle Island Tour or spending a day at the Polynesian Cultural Center to learn about six distinct Pacific Island cultures in a gorgeous island setting.

Tonight, say “Aloha” as you sail out of Honolulu Harbor on a Sunset Dinner Cruise. Working your way up the coast, watch the sun dip low, then vanish into the Pacific, as you enjoy a tasty dinner. The night then comes alive with views of spectacular city lights and music for a little Hawaiian Line Dancing. Shake your hula hips and join the fun!

Aloha & E Malama Pono (Take care until we meet again)

All too soon it’s time to return to the mainland USA. Your hosts bid you Aloha and a Big Mahalo for visiting Hawaii, and they wish you a safe journey home, taking some of the Mana (Hawaiian Spirit) with you.

Changing rooms will be available after hotel check-out for those with late-departing flights. “Full Tour with Air” and “Land Only Tour” travelers will have luggage assistance and transportation to Honolulu airport.

Arrive at your departure airport today after a marvelous, memorable Purdue 150th Anniversary celebration in Hawaii!

“Full Tour with Air” travelers will join motorcoach transportation at their arrival airport to West Lafayette, Indianapolis or Chicago.

Thank you for your support of Purdue University and the Bands and Orchestras!
