Meet Music Travel Consultants Tour Director Cody Groves
Cody Groves brings nearly 20 years of marching arts experience to his role as a tour director with Music Travel Consultants.
Groves joined Music Travel Consultants as a tour director in 2024, bringing nearly two decades of experience in the marching arts. A salesperson by day and a passionate marching band instructor and designer by night, Groves has spent close to 20 years shaping programs and supporting students through performance, instruction and design work.
Outside of tour directing, he enjoys traveling to Disney, playing hockey and spending time with his two dogs. Groves is known for building strong relationships with students, staff and fellow travelers.

Do you have any background in music, education or music education?
I have been working in the marching arts industry for almost 20 years as a side job.
How did you get started tour directing?
I had taken multiple trips with MTC as a traveler and made wonderful connections.
How many total trips have you tour directed?
7
What is the most challenging part of being a successful MTC Tour Director?
Always being one step ahead of everything going on.
What is the largest group you have tour directed?
100, soon to be more.

What is one fact you wish travelers knew before a trip departs?
As a tour director we want to get to know our travelers and build relationships. Don’t be afraid to interact with us.
What is your proudest moment when your presence made a difference or significant impact on a trip?
Having some Southwest flight delays and working with the flight crew while solving a major problem. All while the director just sat and relaxed knowing we were taking care of everything.
What is your favorite place to travel or visit with & without groups?
Disney World
What does it take to be a successful MTC Tour Director?
Having strong personal and organizational skills.
What are the benefits of having an MTC Tour Director at your side?
Being able to relax and enjoy the trip as a traveler and not having to stress about the details.
Any advice or tidbits you want to share with directors considering performance travel?
It is a wonderful experience that will create lifelong memories for your students.
