MTC Bands March in 2024 Thanksgiving Day Parades

Besides the delicious food, friendly gatherings and family traditions, Thanksgiving 2024 held additional special meaning for some band students: an invitation to march in a Thanksgiving Day parade. This year, five bands traveled with MTC to participate in some of the country’s most iconic Thanksgiving Day celebrations.

Avon HS (IN)

The Avon Marching Black and Gold traveled to NYC to perform in the 98th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

They made the most of their time in NYC. Students visited Times Square, the gravesite of Alexander Hamilton, the 9/11 Memorial, Grand Central Terminal, the New York City Public Library and the Bryant Park Holiday Market. The group also attended the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and “Hamilton” on Broadway.

To celebrate a beautiful parade performance, the band took a river cruise complete with a full Thanksgiving dinner and dancing!

Flower Mound HS (TX)

The Flower Mound Marching Band braved cold and rainy NYC to give an excellent performance in the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

They spent the rest of their time in NYC visiting Central Park, the Bryant Park Holiday Market, the Statue of Liberty and the 9/11 Museum. The group also attended the Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular, saw “Wicked” on Broadway and had Thanksgiving dinner and dancing on a Hudson River cruise.

Center Grove HS (IN)

Center Grove HS (IN) marching band students participated in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade, the oldest Thanksgiving Day parade in the country!

On their way to Philly, they spent a few days in NYC, where they saw the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and “Hamilton” on Broadway, took a dinner cruise and experienced some of the city’s best museums.

Hamilton Southeastern HS (IN)

The Hamilton Southeastern HS Royal Command & Guard marched in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Parade.

They traveled to NYC for a few days of sightseeing before going to Philadelphia for their parade performance. They visited the Intrepid Museum, the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, saw “Hamilton” on Broadway and went on a dinner cruise.

After marching in the parade, the group toured historic Philadelphia and enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner together.

Abilene HS (KS)

The Abilene HS Cowboy Band performed in the Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade.

While in Chicago, the group attended a dinner, complete with a recognition ceremony and dancing, celebrating all the bands performing in the parade. Students also took a cruise on Lake Michigan, visited the Museum of Science and Industry and went to a Blue Man Group concert and Medieval Times. The band even had the opportunity to close out the FOX 32 Chicago morning show!
