The Magic of Ireland: Clover HS Ireland Performance Tour

Music Travel Consultants’ recent Ireland Performance Tour with Clover HS (SC) proved to be a symphony of discovery, as travelers embarked on a captivating journey through the heart of the Emerald Isle.

Belfast

The travelers’ Ireland adventure began in Belfast, Northern Ireland’s vibrant capital. The group visited Belfast City Hall and explored the campus of Queen’s University.

The murals of West Belfast and the Peace Wall painted a poignant portrait of the region’s tumultuous history, offering insights into the social and political divisions that once defined the area.

Giants Causeway and Larne

Nature took center stage on the journey along Northern Ireland’s rugged coastline to the mesmerizing Giant’s Causeway. “My favorite experience was when my group hiked up to the top of the Giant’s Causeway,” said Noah Schaffer, clarinetist. Basalt columns sculpted by ancient volcanic activity and the panoramic vistas of the North Atlantic Ocean provided a breathtaking backdrop to exploration.

“I refer to my program as the Clover Band Family and MTC treated us like family and ensured our safety, our effectiveness and that our presentations were always world class!”

Students had amazing opportunities for cultural exchange on a visit to Clover High School’s sister city, Larne. The marching band gave a stand still performance for the students and staff of Larne HS and local media. They drew crowds as they marched through the town, stopping for remembrance services at the Larne War Memorial. The group then gave a final concert to packed stands at the Larne FC Football Pitch. “My favorite memory was definitely visiting Larne. The school was so welcoming and their excitement flowed to our kids. The whole town welcomed us and made us feel special. This was an historic moment. I choked up from the emotions multiple times throughout that visit alone,” said Clover Band parent Benjamin Johansen.

Titanic Museum and Hillsborough Castle

In Belfast, travelers paid homage to the tragic tale of the RMS Titanic at its eponymous museum, tracing the ship’s ill-fated journey from construction to catastrophe.

An excursion to Hillsborough Castle offered students a look at architectural splendor and winding gardens. As the official residence of the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Hillsborough Castle is a testament to centuries of regal heritage.

EPIC Museum and Taylor’s Three Rock

The Clover HS Ireland Performance Tour continued in Dublin, where the group embarked on a scenic tour of the city’s architectural landmarks. A visit to the EPIC museum provided perspective into the global influence of the Irish diaspora. The group spent the afternoon exploring Dublin. “One of my favorite memories is roaming through Dublin with my group of friends,” said percussionist Brayden Bush.

At Taylor’s Three Rock, students enjoyed traditional Irish music and cuisine, immersing themselves in the rich cultural heritage of the Emerald Isle.

Causey Farm

The group delved into Irish traditions at Causey Farm. From baking Irish soda bread to learning an Irish jig to playing the Bodhrán Drum, travelers got to experience Ireland’s rich heritage first-hand. Students were enamored with the farm animals, even witnessing a sheepherding demonstration. Percussionist Kate Lottig said, “I loved going to Causey Farm and seeing all of the animals.”

St. Patrick’s Day Parades

Finally, the big day arrived. The Pride of Clover marched in the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Parade, joining only five other high school marching bands from the United States. This once-in-a-lifetime experience convinced the travelers that there is nothing like celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland! The group quickly boarded the coaches and made their way to Celbridge for another parade. The route was packed with residents and shop owners spilling into the street and cheering on the performers.
