About BOA Regional Championships

Bands of America, a program of Music for All, runs the premier championship series in competitive marching band. Regionals are one-day championships held at college and high school stadiums across the country. Meanwhile, Super Regionals span two days with larger fields, and the season culminates at the Grand National Championships in Indianapolis. Best of all, each event pairs nationally recognized adjudicators with a festival atmosphere that Music for All calls a positively life-changing experience.

Why Your Students Should Watch a BOA Regional

You do not have to compete to get full value from championship weekend. In fact, watching elite bands live is one of the most efficient teaching tools a director has, and it works for students at every level.

• Show design inspiration. For instance, students see current trends in music arrangement, visual storytelling and prop use in a single afternoon.
• A clearer standard. Hearing national-caliber ensembles in person calibrates what your students believe a great tone, balance and ensemble clarity sound like.
• Recruitment fuel. Few recruiting tools work as well as excellence they can see for themselves.
• No pressure, all payoff. In short, there is no rehearsal schedule, no warm-up slot and no score. Your only job is to enjoy and learn.

Host a BOA Watch Party With BOX5

If the drive is too far this season, you can still watch a BOA Regional live. After all, BOX5 Media streams the full Bands of America season at boalive.tv, so your band room can become the best seat in the house.

• Make it an event. First, reserve the band room or auditorium, queue the stream on the big screen and bring snacks, games and prizes.
• Play band bingo. For example, hand out cards with squares such as a clean rifle toss, horns down before the whistle, a forced arch, a face back field transition, a drum major salute or a blind flag catch. First student to five in a row wins.
• Watch like a judge. Then, pause between performances and ask students what they noticed. As a result, the discussion builds the same ears your ensemble uses in every rehearsal.

Finally, the season ends where it always does, at Lucas Oil Stadium for the BOA Grand National Championships, Nov. 12-14.
